A most charming, colourful piece of folk art believed to date from the late 19th to early 20th century. The maker has used a variety fabric to create a realistic representation of a country girl taking her wares to market. Lovely facial expression & cute wicker basket - complete with berries!  On her skirt is stitched the following sweet verse: “Lispeth’s gone a-marketing, Her basket full of berries, If she can but sell a few, Her spirit will be merry.”

Please note Lispeth is supported in the images where she is standing upright; she cannot stand on her own!
