Rig of Three Rare Vintage Polystyrene Decoy Ducks
A very rare and original set of three decoys – possibly Coots? ‘Decoys’ were placed with other similar birds (collectively known as a ‘rig’) either on a lakeside or riverbank or floating (the case here) to lure their wild and living counterparts towards the waiting sporting guns! They are usually made of a buoyant wood but most unusually these have been fashioned from polystyrene (invented in 1839 and widely available from the late 1930s). They probably date from the mid-20th century and have certainly been extensively used for their original purpose! Super weathered appearance and patination with much of their original paint together with early weights and blacksmith made tethering mechanisms.
Dimensions (L, H & W): 27x12x13cm
Postage included. Royal Mail Special Delivery with appropriate insurance to at least the value of the item.
