Small William IV Woollen Band & Red House Sampler by Margaret Born Dated 1835

Description
A really cute, small ‘folksy sampler depicting the classic Georgian house widely built throughout England during the period. Superb, vibrant colour retention & no losses to the ground. The house, motifs & three-sided strawberry border are complete. The name & year details are somewhat indistinctly stitched & cramped (Margaret seems to have run out of space!) but are readily decipherable.
Additional Comments
The period ebonised frame, with interesting gilded linear detailing (plus period glass & hanging eyes) - itself a super antique - has been supplied by us. Overall, the condition of this piece is considered to be in ‘Excellent/Very Good’ given its 185 plus years of age! There is a very small area of discolouration to the centre & some stitch loss to letters in the letter/numerical bands (please refer image 5) - none of which in our view detract from the great period charm & authenticity of the piece. It was purchased from a highly reputable Cornish dealer & is fresh to the digital market.
Conservation & Restoration
We have prepared this stunning sampler for sale by taking it from the unflattering 20th century frame in which it was acquired & removing the surface dust from it using a conservation vacuum cleaner. It has then been stitched onto complementary fresh linen which rests on cotton wadding glued to an acid free mount. All components of the sourced & resized period frame have been stabilised, thoroughly cleaned & the veneer waxed. Finally, the sampler has been re-presented in its frame behind a piece of period pine backing secured by stainless steel panel pins & sealed with self-adhesive picture framing tape. The piece is ready to hang using new (doubled) picture string attached to period eyes.
Framed Dimensions (W, H & D): 36x42x4cm
Ref: S21
